Tawkon Estimates BlackBerry Brain-Frying

Remember that iPhone app that was attempting to tell you what level of radiation the phone was emitting? Tawkon was rejected by Apple for iTunes, but RIM is totally cool with it being in the BlackBerry App World, where you can now download it for $9.99. Essentially, Tawkon assesses how weak your signal is, distance to the nearest base station via GPS, and extrapolates how much harder your phone is transmitting, and if it goes past a certain threshold, vibrates as a warning. Stats are also gathered, showing you how much radiation you’re absorbing or avoiding by using the speakerphone or Bluetooth.

Honestly, I think an app like this sells on sheer and absolute FUD. A ten-year, $24 million study on cell-phone use and their health effects was inconclusive.  We have a sprawling, massive organization called the FCC whose job it is to make sure every single cell phone that goes on the market doesn’t cause harm to people. Sorry, but in a world like that, a dinky $10 app isn’t going to save my life from cell phone radiation.

If, however, those realities haven’t soothed your worries, you can pick up this software placebo at the link below.
