Super-Sleuthing Reveals webOS Firmware Carrier Delays

webOS Firmware Carrier DelaysHere’s an interesting quickie for all of the Pre and Pixi users out there. If you’ve ever wondered how long the lag is between Palm submitting a firmware update to a carrier, and the actual firmware update going live, wonder no longer. Thanks to one Rod Whitby (founder of the webOS Internals Group), we can now take a direct look into carrier turn-around times on new webOS builds.

What Rod did here was put together a table of each firmware release, the original build date, release date, and delay. It’s quite plain to see. He did this by comparing the build date of the webOS Doctor image (assuming this is when the build was submitted to the carrier), and the date in the webOS Doctor URL (which is again, assumed to be the release date by the carrier).

Take a good look at the data above. The first 4 characters in a column represent model number (p100 is the Pre, p120 and p200 are the Pixi). The next 3 letters represent North America (eww) or Europe (eu). Finally, the remainder represents the carrier and version. Check it out and note those delay times. Verizon…27 days on more than one occasion… Really!?
