Alltel just announced the launch of its location based service, WHERE. The location based finder application helps Alltel customers find all the “detailed and customized information” their hearts could desire, “including maps and directions for thousands of locations, directly to Alltel phones.” Subscribers can expect to find “gas stations, shops, restaurants, hotels, parks, golf courses, ATMs, hospitals and schools,” as well as “up-to-date information on local events and allows customers to customize the application by providing local weather, news, traffic conditions, directions, ski reports and more.”
The WHERE software can be downloaded from Alltel’s Axcess Shop for$2.99 a month. The new location based service will launch on five phones for now.
Way to go, Alltel. This is just the type of service that consumers are looking for (at least it’s the kind we are looking for). The $2.99 price point is just right for this type of service. Although, if it sucks as much as other location based services, $2.99 is about $2.98 too much.
