Motorola Xtreme accessories spotted on Verizon system

The Motorola Xtreme is indeed real (as real as the Motorola Droid2 is at the moment), but we still have no idea what this “xtreme” device will look like. Now that we’re seeing some accessories showing up in Verizon’s system, though, we may soon seen the actual device popping up at some point in the near future.

While the device hasn’t yet made it to Verizon’s inventory system, the accessories are a solid indicator that the Xtreme is en route. Whether it’s a device we’ve already seen, and it’s just been renamed, or if it’s something completely new, there’s a very good chance that this is no Devour follow-up. With a name like Xtreme, it’s very likely that this will be yet another high-end Android device for the carrier. It seems if you want an awesome Android device these days, you need to be on Verizon (or Sprint).

It’d be really nice to see Verizon launching a few Android handsets all at once this summer, mirroring the initial Motorola Droid launch, which was simultaneously accompanied by the Droid Eris launch. But it’s really a case of which device is which? We’ve already seen the Droid 2’s new keyboard floating around, as well as what could be the keyboard-less Shadow found in Verizon’s gym. With the LG Ally already out, Verizon may be skipping over a “budget” Droid device and looking instead to release two high-end Android devices at the same time, or one shortly after another.

With the Sprint HTC EVO 4G coming out this Friday, and the new iPhone TBA at WWDC 2010, the beginning of Summer look to be a great start for smartphone launches. Still, I’ll wait to see what Verizon actually comes out with. That may mean waiting until late July, but I’d like to have all of my options laid on the table for me.

What’s your take on the impending smartphone wars of the summer? Do you already have your eyes dead set on a phone about to be released, or are you waiting it out so see what everyone has to offer? Let’s hope the Xtreme is worth the wait.
