Another news item from the floor of the Mobile Money Summit. This time, we’re talking about Brazil’s biggest mobile operator – Vivo, which plans to expand its mobile financial service portfolio and launch new services during the year.

According to the operator’s vice president of marketing and innovation, Hugo Janeba, they [Vivo] are teaming up with banks, credit card and insurance companies in an effort to make “financial services reach new segments of the population.”

Last month, Vivo launched a service for the unbanked users in partnership with leading Brazilian bank Bradesco. Users are encouraged to put money into their accounts by the lure of top-up bonuses.

Separately, the operator plans to launch a mobile wallet service with Brazilian credit card company Redecard and Spanish bank Santander in the third quarter of this year.

And this comes on top of what Vivo has already done in the past — including launching a co-branded mobile credit card with leading Brazilian bank Itau and offering insurance policies to its customers in partnership with Santander…
