ADW Launcher EX for Android

The Android Market is nearly filled to the bones with alternative user interfaces, and this here is my favorite. ADW Launcher Ex, the paid version of the extremely popular ADW Launcher. This version is the feature packed, and for $3.29, it’s a bargain compared to the competition.

Let’s take this simple but elegant Android home screen replacement for a test drive, and see why we gave it a cool 9/10.

Available here: Android Market

Version reviewed: v1.3.3

The Good
  • The user interface is the most customizable of any user interface I've used so far
  • The user interface, no matter what you have it customized to, stays running buttery smooth.
  • The simplicity and overall look adds value to any device.
The Bad
  • The developer takes quite some time to get back to service inquires.

Features & Functionality

The concept of having a feature packed but simple home screen was overdone, in my opinion, by Apple but Anders seems to have a good balance of both. The home screen starts out with a simple Android 2.3-esque look and feel with the infinity app drawer, and 5 home screens to fill up with your apps and widgets. Now this stands out with the great community support it has, with over 100 different themes to choose from, this is by far one of the most customizable home screens when we’re talking themes. The dock itself is customizable from 0-5 slots to fit your apps in. The app drawer has 5 different settings for a costume user interface. For people that want to fancy up their home screen a bit more, you can choose from many different transitions that add a 3D look and feel to every swipe you make on the home screen.

Conclusion

Customization is truly what this is built on, and it almost every aspect of it can be changed manually or with one of the hundreds of available themes.  The price of this home screen make it one of the most attractive premium replacement in the market, and the only downside I’ve experience while reviewing this app is the developer does have a slower than normal response time, but typically I wouldn’t need his help.

Recommend

Yes, if it's a premium home-screen replacement is what you're looking for, this is by far the best in the market that I've reviewed.
