While driving or just walking, we always have that “what song is that I hear” moments, well Sound Hound tries to answer that question. This application is one of the most popular cross-platform music recognition service. It allows you to hold your phone against a speaker, or sing the lyrics, and using its huge database and smart algorithm, it tries to figure out what song exactly you’re thinking about.

Let’s take a look at this application, and see if it’s really the 4.5/5.0 rating the 57,188 user’s gave it in the Android Market.

Available: Android Market

Version Reviewed: 2.5.4

The Good
  • The music recognition software is very accurate with most songs.
  • The post-detection features are very convenient for users that find the music they want.
  • This being a free service makes it that much better.
The Bad
  • This isn't an application most people will be using everyday.

Features & Functionality

The features of the Android application for SoundHound aren’t that many, but that isn’t a bad thing. The application focuses on what it does, finding your music, and getting you everything you need to know about it; nothing more. Installing the application means you’re installing the world’s fastest music recognition software. I’ve tried many alternatives and this application holds to that claim, finding most of my speaker played songs in about 5 seconds of listening. After finding the song; the application takes you to a page with the song’s information and offers to show you the lyrics, find it on YouTube, buy it, find similar artist, share it or even find tour dates of the artist singing the song. All of these great post-finding options are very convenient and well laid out.

The other features are pretty standard, and if you’re willing to pay $4.99 you’ll get an ad-free experience.

Conclusion

The functionality this application offers, and the near perfect song detecting engine make it a great software to help you find your music. I have always been hard to understand, but even when I sing or hum a song, this music application understood what I wanted most of the time.

Recommend

Yes; If you live your life wonder what song you're listening to on the radio, this will save you a lot of brain power and time.
