Apple SymbianI’ve stumbled upon an interesting article on the::unwired. The author, Alfredo Padilla, discusses some issues about the highly-anticipated Apple’s iPhone and sees some very interesting possibilities in a potential Apple/Symbian partnership. The rest of this post is a combination of Alfredo’s opinion and my own.

Nokia already uses Safari’s code for its S60 web browser, and an additional venture with Apple could benefit the both companies. One can only dream of the next line of Nokia smartphones – not “N” or “E”, but iSeries.

However, Apple is known for its closed platform and entering the Symbian realm could be a sort of precedent. Also, Nokia’s recent acquisition of Loudeye indicate that the finish giant is preparing to compete with Apple’s iTunes. On the other hand, I wonder is there a space for yet another mobile platform?

If you remember, I’ve already posted that Nomura’s analyst believe BlackBerry should use the Symbian platform. That kind of comment should eliminate all the earlier Apple-BlackBerry rumors.

If somehow Apple decides to go on the Symbian way, it would give the major boost to the platform and cement Symbian’s dominance. Just imagine all the beauty of the iPod mixed with the functionality of a Symbian smartphone. Hmm. :)
