Budget smartphones have a reputation for cutting corners on durability. Screens scratch, batteries degrade fast, and water resistance is often an afterthought. TECNO is trying to change that perception with its latest release, a phone designed from the ground up to stay useful for years rather than months.
TECNO announced the Spark 50 Pro on June 16, positioning it as a durability-focused device for users who want a phone that keeps pace with their daily life without falling apart. The company operates in over 70 markets, with a focus on emerging markets where long device lifespans matter even more because replacement cycles tend to stretch further.
The Spark 50 Pro comes in two battery configurations, both rated for more than 1,900 charge cycles, which works out to roughly six years of daily charging while retaining over 80% battery capacity. That kind of longevity claim is rare at this price segment, and it speaks to a broader shift in how smartphone makers are marketing to cost-conscious buyers who are tired of replacing phones every two years.
Battery life and performance built for the long haul
The two battery options give buyers a choice between a 5600mAh dual-cell version and a 6000mAh single-cell version. Both support 60W Super Charge, which gets the phone to 63% in 30 minutes and fully charged in 55 minutes. Three charging modes let users adjust the balance between speed and heat:
- Hyper mode for fastest charging
- Smart mode for balanced everyday use
- Low-Temperature mode to protect the battery in hot conditions
There is also bypass charging, which routes power directly to the motherboard during heavy use like gaming or streaming while plugged in. This reduces the heat that normally builds up when charging and using the phone at the same time, which is one of the main causes of battery degradation over time.
Under the hood, the phone runs on a MediaTek Helio G100 Ultimate processor with an AnTuTu benchmark score of around 550,000. It supports up to 24GB of RAM through Memory Fusion 4.0, which borrows storage capacity to supplement physical RAM. The 6.78-inch display runs at up to 120Hz, and dual stereo speakers with DTS Sound handle audio for video and gaming.
A Sony sensor in a budget phone
The camera is arguably the Spark 50 Pro’s biggest talking point at this price range. It uses a Sony LYTIA 600 main sensor, developed by Sony Semiconductor Solutions using Sony optical technology. Key specs include:
- 50MP resolution
- 1/1.953-inch sensor size, which is large for this segment
- FlashSnap shutter speeds of up to 1/10,000s for capturing fast motion
A larger sensor gathers more light, which directly improves photo quality in low-light situations. Most phones at this price use smaller, cheaper sensors, so the Sony component is a real differentiator here.
The camera software adds Live Photo for motion moments, AI Eraser 2.0 to remove unwanted objects, and AI Extender for reframing shots. TECNO’s Universal Tone technology is also included, which aims to produce more accurate skin tones across different lighting conditions and skin types. This is a feature that rarely gets attention in press releases but matters a lot to users who find standard smartphone cameras handle their skin tone poorly.
Slim design with serious protection
The phone is 7.8mm thin, which is genuinely slim for a device with a 6000mAh battery option. It carries both IP68 and IP69 ratings, covering dust, submersion, and high-pressure water jets. It also holds Swiss SGS Five-Star Premium Drop Resistance certification.
Other practical features include:
- FreeLink 2.0 for off-grid communication in supported scenarios
- 4.5G and 4G carrier aggregation for better network performance
- AI Noise Cancellation for cleaner call quality in noisy environments
- TECNO’s Ella AI Agent and AI Health Assistant for productivity and health monitoring
The Spark 50 Pro is available in Ink Black, Titanium Grey, Midnight Blue, Dynamic Orange, and Cloud White. Pricing and regional availability have not been confirmed at the time of writing.
