A 7,200mAh battery in a mid-range phone is a big deal. That alone makes the Vivo Y31T 5G worth paying attention to, even before you factor in the IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance, which is genuinely rare at this price point. Vivo has launched the Y31T 5G in India, and while it checks a lot of boxes, there’s still one key detail missing: the actual price.
What you’re working with under the hood
The Y31T 5G runs on the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, built on a 4nm process with an octa-core setup clocking up to 2.2GHz. It’s a solid chip for everyday use and handles 5G without breaking a sweat. The phone uses LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, and Vivo’s Extended RAM feature can pull up to 6GB of virtual RAM from storage. That last part is a software trick, not actual hardware memory, so temper your expectations there.
The display is a 6.75-inch LCD panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s not AMOLED, and that might bother some people at this price range. Still, 120Hz on an LCD is smooth enough for scrolling and casual gaming, and the large screen pairs well with that enormous battery.
Cameras and software
On the back, you get a 50MP primary camera and a 2MP bokeh sensor. That secondary camera is basically a depth sensor dressed up as a feature, so don’t read too much into the dual-camera marketing. The front camera is 8MP, which covers video calls and selfies well enough.
The phone ships with OriginOS 6 on top of Android 16, and Vivo has packed in a bunch of AI tools. These include AI Erase for removing unwanted objects from photos, AI Captions, AI Transcript Assist, and AI Creation. There’s also something called AI SuperLink, which Vivo says improves connectivity performance. It sounds promising, though how well these features work day-to-day will depend on real-world testing.
The durability angle is genuinely impressive
Here’s where the Y31T 5G actually stands out. IP68 and IP69 ratings together mean this phone can handle being submerged in water and also withstand high-pressure water jets. Vivo says it supports underwater photography at depths of up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes under specified conditions. That’s a spec usually reserved for phones costing a lot more. If it holds up in real life, this is a big win for buyers who want a tough daily driver.

Pricing and where to buy
Vivo hasn’t confirmed the price yet, which is a strange move for a phone that’s already official. Earlier leaks put it somewhere between Rs 25,000 and Rs 30,000 depending on the memory variant. The phone is also expected to sell mostly through offline retail channels in India, so don’t expect to grab it easily on Amazon or Flipkart. That limits its reach, which is a real missed opportunity given how competitive the online mid-range market is right now.
So where does this leave the Y31T 5G? It’s a phone with genuinely useful hardware, especially that battery and the IP rating. But until Vivo confirms a price, it’s hard to say whether it earns its spot in a crowded field. Get that number right and this could be a strong option. Price it too high and the lack of an AMOLED screen and the offline-only strategy will hurt it.
