As we already know, the fear for the national security goes well beyond the reason. I can understand that selected government agencies require special, more secure handsets, but banning the use of BlackBerrys for the whole establishment sectors simply doesn’t make much sense. That being said, BBS is reporting that French government officials working at president’s and prime minister’s office have been ordered not to use Blackberry device amid fears that foreigners could spy on them.
Apparently, France’s SGDN security service is worried because BlackBerrys use US- and UK-based servers. However, there are “spies among them” and some some officials are flouting the ban and using their devices in secret. “They tried to offer us something else to replace our BlackBerrys but it doesn’t work,” one unnamed official told.
What’s next – a ban for mobile phone use, just like in Korea?
