Happy birthday, SMS!

Kudos to the Short Message Service Center (SMSC) on their 15th year of operation. The year was 1992. Lycra and shoulder pads were hip. Nirvana topped the charts. Rodney King case sparks LA riots. And, Acision launches their SMSC platform.

It’s been 15 years and the SMS phenomenon that started off with a maximum capacity of 10 messages per second, has increased to over 16,000 message per second per SMSC application – and earns virtually every mobile operator a significant chunk of change each year.
