OnePlus reveals first phone in new India-focused N series

OnePlus is expanding its smartphone portfolio with a new series aimed squarely at India’s competitive budget market. The company officially revealed the OnePlus N6, the first device in its new N series, which will launch on June 30 at 12 PM local time in India.

The move represents OnePlus’s continued push to capture market share in India, one of the world’s largest smartphone markets where budget-conscious consumers drive significant sales volume. By creating a series specifically “designed for India’s young and neo generation,” OnePlus is taking direct aim at competitors like Xiaomi, Realme, and Samsung who dominate the affordable segment.

The official teaser image shows the OnePlus N6 with a square rear camera housing that borrows design elements from the Nord CE6. The device will be available in black and green color options and appears to feature a flat display design. While OnePlus hasn’t confirmed specifications or exact pricing, previous leaks suggest the N series will target the sub-INR 20,000 market, roughly equivalent to $211.

This pricing strategy would place the N6 in direct competition with established budget players. The affordable smartphone segment in India has seen intense competition, with manufacturers constantly pushing to offer flagship-like features at lower price points. OnePlus’s entry with a dedicated series could help the brand, which has traditionally focused on premium devices, tap into the volume sales that budget phones generate.

The timing aligns with OnePlus’s broader regional strategy. The company recently launched the Turbo 6X series in China, indicating a push toward more diverse product lines tailored to specific markets rather than global one-size-fits-all approaches. This market-specific product development has become increasingly common as smartphone growth slows in developed markets while emerging economies continue to drive sales.

While OnePlus hasn’t confirmed whether the N series will remain exclusive to India, the targeted messaging suggests this could be a region-specific launch. Indian consumers have shown strong appetite for phones that balance features with affordability, making it a natural testing ground for new budget-focused product lines.

The full specifications and final pricing will be revealed at the June 30 launch event. Given the competitive nature of India’s budget smartphone market, OnePlus will need to offer compelling value to carve out meaningful market share against well-established local favorites.
