I wasn’t aware that some country in the Western (or that’s north) Europe doesn’t have a 3G network. Even most of the non-EU countries in Europe have 3G networks…

Iceland goes 3GAnyway, Icelandic telecom company Síminn has finally decided to move its subscribers to the age of modern mobile communications with their launch of the country’s first 3G network. The special ceremony was held in the capital city, where Síminn donated 3G phones to all members of Icelandic Association of the Deaf, who will certainly benefit from the video calling capability of the video call enabled devices.

At the moment, the 3G network only covers the capital region, but the carrier promised to expand its new network to reach at least 60% of Iceland’s inhabitants who live outside that region in the next two and a half years.

I don’t think Iceland is an EU member state, but still it’s strange that it just got 3g now given that it’s a Nordic state which are famous for the latest in telecom tech!

You’re right – Iceland is not an EU member state. I’ve fixed the post. Thanks for noticing!
