Apple and Orange still negotiating iPhone deal?

iPhone Orange FranceWait, didn’t Orange and Apple just announce their partnership to bring the Apple iPhone to France? In fact, they did – just last week. But, according to Reuters, the two companies are still struggling to come to agreeable terms in the revenue sharing model that Apple is demanding from all potential iPhone carriers. With T-Mobile Germany rumored to be giving 30% of revenues, and O2 UK reported to be giving up a massive 40% of their iPhone revenue to Apple, we imagine Orange is under some heavy pressure to agree to considerable kick-backs.

For Orange and French iPhone fans’ sake, these negotiations had better wrap up pretty damn quickly. The holiday shopping season is almost upon us and it would be a shame for the French to have to resort to buying unlocked iPhones on eBay (pre-v1.1.1-update iPhones, that is).

I heard there was a dispute over a term which said that Orange would have only been allowed to talk about the iPhone before xmas (in Orange’s mobile branch that is, not for the ADSL/LandLine-Phone products)…

Anyways, what did Apple from a retrograde ex-monopoly state company ? (don’t get me wrong, I love public service, but since it’s been privatised, they just slept on the fact each single copper wire belongs to them and put’s the price tag very high killing conpetition, hopefully there have been outsiders which brought the market at nicer prices like uncapped 24Mbs ADSL with TV and free phone at 30€/month ;-) , before that, with Orange it was bare 2M at 70€/month )

I say that it sounds like Orange is taking a reality check and looking at the way Apple gave it to AT&T up the backside.

It’s nice to see a carrier finally looking at it from a real standpoint. Giving up revenue for a half-assed device in terms of functionality? No thanks, says Orange. I like it.
