Apple iPhone GPS software maker offering refunds on Navizon

Thanks to Apple’s recent iPhone update (v1.1.1), anyone upgrading to the new iPhone firmware will find that their third-party application are pretty much dead (for now, at least). That’s unfortunate for anyone that shelled out their hard-earned cash for applications like Ambrosia Software’s iToner and Navizon’s Virtual GPS.
As you’ll remember, Navizon’s Virtual GPS basically turns your iPhone (as well as many other smartphones) into a pseudo-GPS navigator. Using a hybrid technology of cell-tower triangulation and WiFi hotspot location-data, Navizon promised to bring position-based data to the iPhone. But now, with their current solution broken by the new update, Navizon is offering up refunds for the full $24.95 purchase price. The refund is only available to those who updated their phones to the new firmware.
The company wants to make it clear that they are working on getting the Navizon Virtual GPS service to work with the new firmware and that rumors suggesting that Navizon is halting all development on the Virtual GPS service is “plain false and quite frankly, a bit laughable.”
Keep fighting the good fight, Navizon. We’re not big fans of your spotty Virtual GPS service, but we support your efforts to crack the new iPhone firmware - if on principle alone.
