The Kelsey Group: Nearly half of U.S. mobile users look for better Internet access in their next mobile phone

According to the new mobile consumer study conducted by The Kelsey Group and ConStat, “Mobile Market View,” 44.7% of U.S. mobile phone users say a mobile phone with better Internet capability will be a key factor in their next mobile phone purchase decision. At the moment, only 26% of mobile phone subscribers in the U.S. opt for an Internet access plan and I guess that number will grow exponentially in the coming months.
In addition, Mobile Market View study also discovers it’s the maps and local commercial search that are preferred Internet applications. In the past six months, 9.8% of respondents used their mobile phones to conduct Internet searches for products and services in their local area. During the same period, 10.7% downloaded or looked at maps, while 10.9% indicated they had downloaded search or mapping applications to supplement those that came with their mobile phones.
Should we thank Apple for the rising interest in the mobile Internet in the U.S.? What do you think?
