It seems that RIM is preparing some strange/cool new phones for the future, as they’ve just announced that they’ll work with Eatoni Ergonomic to develop a new text keyboard technology. Under the agreement, RIM will take an equity investment in Eatoni, and get a license to use the company’s technology.
Earlier, we had Eatoni and RIM suing each other, and now two companies’ claims have been mutually dismissed and further details of the pact are being kept confidential…
The way I see it, Eatoni’s technology could be well used with consumer-focused devices and that’s exactly the area where the BlackBerry-maker could see its expansion in the coming years. That being said, I could easily envision some future Pearl-esque devices having the keypad that look like the one on the image. We’ll wait and see…
