Latest strategic report from Informa Telecoms & Media called “Future Mobile Broadband: Revenue Opportunities for HSPA to LTE, EV-DO to UMB & WiMAX” suggests that mobile broadband is set to explode. According to Informa’s researchers, mobile broadband will represent close to half of total mobile service revenues in 2012. Or to put in other words, sooner or later carriers WILL become dumb pipes…
Highlights:
- Revenues from mobile broadband services will generate more than $400 billion globally by 2012.
- In 2011, there will be more mobile than fixed broadband subscribers.
- Although EV-DO is the top mobile broadband system at the moment, HSPA will overtake it in 2009.
- LTE will be the leading next-generation system but will trail WiMAX in 2012.
- TD-SCDMA will also become a significant force in the mobile broadband market with close to 50 million subscribers in China by 2012.
