Sierra Wireless USBConnect 881 HSPA USB modem from AT&TWith AT&T’s high-speed upload network now online, the wireless carrier is starting to roll out wireless data HSUPA  modems. AT&T’s first HSUPA data card offering was the Sierra Wireless AirCard 881, and now they’re offering us the Sierra Wireless USBConnect 881 HSUPA USB modem to surf the full HSPA data highway.

If expresscards aren’t your thing, you’ll be glad to hear that AT&T is bringing their HSPA (3G data on the upstream and downstream – HSDPA and HSUPA) network to a USB-port on Mac or Windows rig near you. The Sierra Wireless USBConnect 881 USB modem tips the scales at just 1.25 ounces and tri-band HSPA support with full quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity. The newly-launched AT&T HSPA network will push data down the (wireless) pipe at 600kbps to 1.4Mbps, and will pull data upstream at 500kbps and 800kbps.

The Sierra Wireless USBConnect 881 HSPA USB modem will run you $49.99 (rebate involved, of course) when you sign up for a 2-year DataConnect contract of $59.99, or more, per month – $299.99 will net you this HSPA USB modem free and clear.

HSPA?! We’ll take some of that delicious 3G data, please.

I have a Sierra 881 card and live in a fringe reception area. Have any suggestions on bosting signal strength?

There should be a little port that you can use to plug in an external antenna. You can boost signal strength with an external antenna.
