Oppo is pushing further into the European market with the launch of the Reno 16 and Reno 16 Pro. As reported by NotebookCheck, both phones are now available for pre-order ahead of a July 3 release, with early-bird pricing running until July 31.
The phones first appeared in China in late May. The European versions carry over most of the key specs, but buyers should know upfront that the Reno 16 Pro sold here is not identical to its Chinese counterpart. The Pro shrinks from a 6.78-inch LTPO panel to a 6.32-inch screen, which is a meaningful change for anyone who bought into the larger display on paper.
Still, both phones come loaded with capable hardware, competitive camera setups, and large batteries. For Oppo, this launch is part of a steady push to build brand recognition in a European market dominated by Samsung and Apple, with Chinese brands like Xiaomi and Honor also competing for space.
Display and performance: where the two phones differ
Both the Reno 16 and Reno 16 Pro share a 6.32-inch display with a 2640 x 1216 resolution and a peak brightness of 3600 nits. The standard model runs at 120Hz, while the Pro steps up to 144Hz. That is a reasonable difference, though losing the larger LTPO panel that Chinese buyers get is worth noting.
The chipsets split along brand lines:
- Reno 16: Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, available with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage
- Reno 16 Pro: MediaTek Dimensity 8550 Super, with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage
Neither chip is top-of-the-line, but both sit comfortably in the upper mid-range category, which is exactly where these phones are priced.
Camera specs that stand out on paper
Oppo is clearly using the camera system as a selling point here, and the specs back that up, at least on paper.
The Reno 16 Pro’s rear camera system includes:
- 200MP f/1.8 Samsung S5KHP5 main sensor with OIS
- 20MP f/2.0 ultrawide camera
- 50MP f/2.8 Samsung JN5 telephoto camera with OIS
- 50MP Samsung JNF front camera with f/2.0 aperture
The Reno 16 drops to a 50MP f/1.8 Sony LYT-600 main sensor with OIS, but shares the same ultrawide and telephoto cameras as the Pro. Its selfie camera is a 50MP GalaxyCore GC50F6 sensor with an f/1.8 aperture.
Both phones support some interesting shooting modes, including simultaneous front and rear recording, 4K video stabilization that corrects up to five degrees of tilt, and retro-style live filters.
Battery, build, and software
Both phones carry a 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery with 80W SuperVOOC fast charging. That is a solid battery size for the category, though Chinese variants of the Pro reportedly had a larger cell, so European buyers are again getting a slightly reduced spec.
The rest of the shared hardware list is strong:
- Stereo speakers
- Aluminum frame
- Dual SIM support
- Bluetooth 5.4
- Optical in-display fingerprint scanner
- Dedicated AI key on the left side
- IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K dust and water resistance
The Pro adds a HyperCool vapor chamber for better thermal management. Both phones ship with ColorOS 16 out of the box.
Pricing and availability in Europe
Right now, availability is confirmed for Germany and Austria. Oppo is running a launch discount on both models through July 31.
- Reno 16 (8GB RAM, 512GB storage): Regular price 899 euros, discounted to 799 euros until July 31. Colors: Pop White and Twilight Violet.
- Reno 16 Pro (12GB RAM, 512GB storage): Regular price 1,099 euros, discounted to 899 euros until July 31. Colors: Pop White and Starlight Black.
Oppo is also offering free gifts with purchases of either device, though exact details were not specified. Pre-orders are open now, with units shipping from July 3.
At 799 euros during the launch window, the Reno 16 competes directly with phones like the Samsung Galaxy A56 and Pixel 9a. The Reno 16 Pro at 899 euros puts it up against more established names with stronger software support track records, which will be the real test for Oppo in this market.
