Windows Mobile – it’s a man’s world

Windows Mobile customers are mostly menNot to come off too chauvinistic, but it would appear that it’s a man’s world afterall – at least as far as Windows Mobile is concerned. A study conducted by Microsoft found that only 14.6% of the Windows Mobile users are women, 85.4% of users being of the male persuasion. Could it be Microsoft’s (Windows Mobile’s) penchant for designing their user interface with a priority on function? Windows Mobile devices tend to be more logically and straight-forwardly designed then their fashion-oriented brethren, could it have something to do with the “eye-candy” factor?

Now, before you go off on a tirade about how men and women are created equal, women are just as logical as men, have use for straight-forward designs, and all that jazz, just know that we’re all for women being considered on the same playing field as men. But, the fact remains that women prefer “prettier” colors, sleeker designs, and more attractive user interfaces – is it any wonder that Windows Mobile devices are more appealing to men, while fashion-phones like the Pink Baby Phat RAZR and SLVR are geared towards the female side?

Windows Mobile had better start thinking more about design and the “eye-candy” factor if it hope to attract more women into using the WinMo platform. Afterall, 50.4% of all handsets belong to women.
