Operator outsourcing of games is a GOOD thing….

… at least that’s what Sven Halling of End2End says (by the way, his company runs the outsourced games services for Vodafone, amongst others). You may remember a post I made last week relating to Virgin Mobile outsourcing their games and video delivery, so this is a follow-up.

Sven does make a good point actually, in that often in Operators, only a small team is looking after multiple content product areas – so their time on any one category is limited. There is also the issue of potentially legacy billing/reporting systems that have to be managed and interfaced with.

From my personal experience, it’s not something I have seen so much – I have worked inside and alongside content teams of 30-40 people, focused on nothing else – however, I do know of Operators using a ‘skeleton crew’ to get the job done, and I can imagine for the smaller players this makes perfect sense.

It is Sven’s opinion that even with this new media platform and environment, you still need first-class retailing, and content management,  to drive sales, and reach new segments.

As the article concludes (link below), the net result of all this (irrespective of whether it’s a good thing or not) is that Operator portals have lots of great games on them – absolutely it’s a good thing then!!

As a result he has a broad and deep knowledge in numerous areas of Mobile – from network operators to device vendors, to infrastructure and middleware vendors (not to mention content delivery) – and has worked for companies in all of these areas! He is based in the UK, a hotbed of activity for mobile, and recently became a father for the second time – as oppose to in his younger years when he was happy spend time tweaking all manner of mobile devices to 'nth' degree, he now looks for services and hardware that provide the most efficient, compact, and reliable improvements to his already manic life! It’s his opinion that Mobile solutions should be there to help to make your life better – if a particular solution (be it service or device) isn’t doing this, he believes you need to ask the very important question of why you continue to use it... His focus at IntoMobile is mainly on Mobile content, services, and infrastructure, particularly as regards the UK market – and with the occasional look at devices. Additionally, using his extensive experience in the industry, he will provide commentary on the industry at large, with regular (and hopefully thought-provoking) articles.

Sony Ericsson is one nasty company. They keep all their best products for Japan. It’s like they don’t want to compete with high-end Nokia phones in Europ

Outsourcing AMERICAN jobs is as good for the economy as a a bullet in the head is good for one’s health! The more AMERICAN jobs sent off shore; the fewer AMERICANS holding down a job. The fewer AMERICANS holding down a job; the fewer AMERICANS can afford the “American Made” product. IF a business wants to do business in the united States of America; it should be REQUIRED to hire LOCAL employees to produce the product!!! Off Shore outsourcing IS NOT A GOOD THING!!!
