1-30-08-bart-fare.jpg230 people in the San Francisco Bay area are trialing electronic wallets embedded into Samsung mobile phones that allow them to pay for public transport and fast food. They’re probably using NFC, but CBS (3 minute video) is too afraid to get too geeky on us and explain the actual technology. Consumers shouldn’t have to know how it works, they just need to know it is safe and reliable. If trials are successful then they’ll roll this out throughout the country, half a decade after Japan.
