OpenMoko second handsetOpenMoko will be launching its second handset in the March-April period this year, according to company’s president Sean Moss-Pultz. In addition to pushing its own products, the Taiwan-based open source handset maker will also use its platform to engage in production of hardware devices in cooperation with other companies and even plans to make up to one-third of its overall revenues from such deals. First OpenMoko’s partner is already announced and it’s Dash along with whom OpenMoko will develop Dash Express portable navigation device.

Back to the new handset. What can we expect? It’s hard to argue the company’s Neo handset was a success. Then again, we’re not sure what goals they have set nor how they measure it. Still, it’s kinda clear the user interface improvements will take a center stage in the new device. Plus, let’s hope they’ll also try some new form factors with Neo 2. Why not release a complete series instead of a single device? I could easily imagine OpenMoko selling Neo 2 Slide, Neo 2 Clam and Neo 2 Brick. Sounds like a plan, don’t you think?
