Google Gears for mobile released, Windows Mobile initial platform

Google Gears, the web runtime framework from Google that allows websites and services to be used offline, is heading for mobile phones starting with Windows Mobile devices. Not as exciting as today’s Microsoft announcement of Silverlight for Nokia’s S40, S60 and Maemo platforms, but it further reinforces my argument that the next war on mobile is not in the OS space, but in the runtime layer.

This video is not worth watching, mainly because the guy talking calls IE Mobile the best browser out there in terms of being open. Calling IE Mobile the best open browser is just … wrong on so many levels.
