Google Maps now native on UIQFollowing the earlier release of the native Windows Mobile and Symbian S60 versions, Google has finally released its popular Google Maps as a native application for Symbian UIQ smartphones.

The new application is certainly faster than a Java midlet, and also (like S60 and Windows Mobile versions) features “My Location” function, which basically gives a guess of your whereabouts. Everything else is pretty much the same…

So Sony Ericsson smartphone and Motorola Z8 (actually we’re not sure whether the non-touchscreen “flavor” of the UIQ is supported) owners, point your Opera Mobile to www.google.com/gmm and take it from there.
