Even though we’ve heard a criticism about WiMAX right from the horse’s mouth, official WiMAX Forum remains optimistic about the technology. As a matter of fact their CTIA release suggests there will be 133 million WiMAX users by 2012. The forecast is based on the results of an independently commissioned research study to be published in April 2008.
Highlights:
- 70% of the forecasted WiMAX users by 2012 will utilize mobile and portable WiMAX devices to access broadband Internet services.
- Key regions for WiMAX user growth are Asia Pacific and the Americas.
- First Mobile WiMAX Certified products are expected to achieve certification in Q2 2008.
- More than 260 service providers are deploying WiMAX services in 110 countries worldwide.
- By 2011 there will be more than 1,000 Mobile WiMAX Forum Certified products found throughout the world.
Finally, at the CTIA, WiMAX Forum has a WiMAX Lounge located in the central lobby so if you’re around (and care enough) check them out.
