Great, I managed to answer my own question regarding further upcoming SN services….!

Fierce Mobile Content has picked out 5 Mobile SN services that it thinks you should keep an eye on – I’ve provided a very brief summary, together with links, below:

Meet Now Live – location-based, mobile social networking service which involves you broadcasting your location as you booze through NYC. A Free Beer promotion could see usage of the service sky-rocket….!

Sniffaforementioned, LBS permission-based service which works via SMS shortcode (and Facebook). You can find your mates and get a map back to guide you to them. Strong emphasis on permissioning and “opt-in”

Trapster – a free “mobile social alert service” that enables motorists to post data on highway speed traps (a US service then!). This means that other users can be alerted and hence slow down. There is a SN element to it whereby users that post data have their credibility determined over the course of time

Whrrl – this app apparently catalogues each user’s history of places visited and events attended, at the same time mapping their behaviour with colour icons that show whether the user enjoyed the event/experience or not. Of course, users can share ratings, and update stataus and/or location

Xumii – This one isn’t even in the wild properly yet, Xumii enables subscribers to use their favorite communications tools and services to connect with all their social communities via one centralized application. Of course, lots extra is promised like presence notification, offline mode, media sharing, etc. Personally I think we’ve heard a lot of this before, but lets give them the benefit of the doubt…..

So there you have it, 5 services that are in one way or another twisting the SN concept to include/disclude various elements – most of them are trying to use location-based services, and pretty much all have a sharing element to them. Who knows which of them will be successful….?

As a result he has a broad and deep knowledge in numerous areas of Mobile – from network operators to device vendors, to infrastructure and middleware vendors (not to mention content delivery) – and has worked for companies in all of these areas! He is based in the UK, a hotbed of activity for mobile, and recently became a father for the second time – as oppose to in his younger years when he was happy spend time tweaking all manner of mobile devices to 'nth' degree, he now looks for services and hardware that provide the most efficient, compact, and reliable improvements to his already manic life! It’s his opinion that Mobile solutions should be there to help to make your life better – if a particular solution (be it service or device) isn’t doing this, he believes you need to ask the very important question of why you continue to use it...
