The 2008 Mobile Choice Awards went down last night, and the Nokia E71 went home as the big winner, but Samsung did pretty well for itself, too. Other notables include…

  • Phone of the Year: Nokia E71
  • Best Smartphone: Nokia E71
  • Best Manufacturer: Samsung
  • Best Cameraphone: Samsung i8510
  • Best Music Phone: Samsung F400
  • Readers’ Choice: iPhone 3G
  • Operator of the Year: O2
  • Best Customer Service: Virgin Mobile (for eight years running!)

What do you guys think? Fair choices? Obviously I’m partial to the BlackBerry Bold for Best Smartphone, but having had some face time with the E71, I can certainly say its construction is a notch above.

    I would have certainly been upset if the iPhone 3G or a BlackBerry phone was chosen instead.

    I am indeed a happy man with this verdict :)

  • jay

    may i ask whose photo was used in there ‘cos if it is Bernie Mack then that is totally disrespectful.

  • AC

    Ok, I’ll buy one ;)

  • Freddy

    Well I have the E71 and is no suprise it win .
    For the low price and what you get.
    The E71 is one obvious winner

  • Simon Sage

    @jay Don’t worry, it was Samuel L. Jackson.

  • derek

    Yup. I agree. E71 is by far the most advanced piece of gadget on the planet right now! I have it and it blows me away with Navigation, quick as hell, wifi is awesome, camera is cool but i never us it, great music phone, radio is cool to have on the go, the design is to die for, and best of all.. the battery!!!

    Good choice!

    iphone 3G is cool but 5years behind this!

  • Jeff

    #AC Then you make the right choice !
    The E71 are awsome good and with real sexy look !

  • Journo_UA

    I`m with you, people! I`m also going to buy E71.

  • Paul

    Freddy says “For the low price and what you get.” I’ve been looking into the E71 for all the great features and design, but low price????? It looked pretty pricey. Has the price come down?

  • Freddy

    Yes the price are awsome approximately
    400$ Unlocked , Simfree!
    Almost half of the price for resemble devices .

    Yes you read right approximately 400 US dollar not GBP..:) you get the best smartphone
    and phone of the year.

  • Patrick

    Thats awsome ! I anderstand why the E71 win .
    Is so sexy and greate device..:)

  • Jon

    How’s the speaker phone like? Loud enough? Cos the one on my e51 sucks. Am thinking of upgrading to either the e71 or e90 cos I need the QWERTY keyboard as I do more texting than talking now and I prefer speaker phone over placing it at my ear…

  • Michael

    That’s a surprise.. A two year old OS won.

  • Derrick

    Too bad they left out BBConnect in the E71 version, it would have been a no-brainer as a “blackberry killer”. Still, probably one of the best QWERTY devices around IMO.

  • Patrick

    We hope BBC come later ,
    Yes thats why E71 wins the Best Smartphone
    and Phone of the Year.

  • John

    Congrats E71 ! Are there more coulors then grey and white for the E71 ?

    Email/Messaging Power User – 100+ Emails per day

    During the last twelve months I’ve purchased the iPhone, HTC Touch Pro and now the Nokia E71 (10/10. Arrived 10/11), and I have to say that this phone is awesome. While the HTC Touch Pro TouchFlo 3D is a nice application, the device is still a WinMo behind the curtain. Further the hinge design, while responsive, is still unbalanced.

    The E71 has performed, during the last 24 hours, well beyond my expectations. The highlights:

    * Dual Modes (Fully Customizable)
    * Form Factor & Quality
    * Speaker Volume
    * Video Ringer (Seriously. Video ID)
    * POP3 Email Setup

    On the Cons side:

    * No Email Embedded HTML Support
    * MS Exchange Email Sync Not Intuitive, but it is Reliable
    * Not Buying This Thing 12 Months Ago

  • Tom

  • jaykhn

    Blackberry Bold is so much better than the Nokia E71, i’ve had them both and the Bold is superior!

  • Thomas

    Nah The E71 are much better then bold , Thats why the jury choice
