Again and again, I can’t help but find mobile-related numbers from China and India impressive.
Apparently, there were 3.9 new connections every second during the month of September. Thanks to the new subscriber additions, the total market reached 310.62 million users with a penetration rate of 27.5%.
Leading operator Bharti set a new market record for monthly net additions with a figure of 2.70 million. Other operators also saw their subscriber base growing in September: Vodafone added 1.86 million, Reliance 1.72 million, IDEA 1.10 million, Tata 0.96 million, seventh-placed Aircel 0.75 million and tenth-placed BPL 0.15 million new users.
In total, Bharti has 77.48 million, Reliance 56.01 million, Vodafone 54.61 million, and BSNL remains in fourth place with 39.33 million users.
With 75.2% of the total market, GSM dominates the Indian market. There were 7.65 million new GSM subscribers in September, while CDMA saw “only” 2.34 million additions in September.
