Telus HTC Touch Pro

Hot on the heels of Bell, Telus has launched their HTC Touch Pro to Canada today for $649.99 on its own, or $299.99 with a 3-year contract. Why it costs $50 more than Bell’s offer is anybody’s guess. A release was rumoured back in September, and even advertised by Best Buy, so the Touch Pro was certainly expected. The close launch date with Bell reinforces the likelihood that the BlackBerry Storm will see a similar timeframe for their launches in the middle of December. Still, the Touch Pro is a solid choice for those who need both a touchscreen and a full QWERTY keypad in a stylish package. 2.8″ VGA screen, 3.2 megapxiel camera with autofocus and flash, GPS, Wi-Fi, and 3G all round out the Touch Pro. There’s still no working link from the online store to full details, but John spotted a hidden checkout page if you’re in a rush.

In exploring RIM’s platform, he has learned what enterprises are looking for in mobility as well as what makes the innocuous BlackBerry so appealing to them. Recently Simon’s been covering RIM’s gradual move into an already-crowded consumer market, and the impact of burgeoning challengers, such as the iPhone, as well as long-time leaders, like Nokia, on BlackBerry’s advancement. With plenty of content under his belt, Simon will be branching off a bit to see what other smartphone manufacturers are working on while still using BlackBerry as a barometer.
