CNN Mobile on the iPhone… A Great Experience

CNN Mobile has been around for quite some time now, but it wasn’t till this morning that I actually had a great experience with it (not that I’ve ever had a bad experience with it).

This morning, as I lay there half-awake, I recalled the tragic and horrible events of last night over in India. Wanting to know the latest to see what was going on, I picked up my trusty iPhone and punched in CNN.com. Sure enough, all of the news was there for me to browse.

Immediately after punching in the address, the site transferred me over to the mobile site, m.cnn.com. All I have to say, is kudos to CNN for optimizing this site for mobile devices. The homepage is plain and simple, and actual news pages are 99% text, which means insanely fast loading times. Plus, on my iPhone the text is formatted in such a nice way, that the articles are an absolute pleasure to read. I think I may be turning over a new leaf here… Maybe I should download a few e-book apps for the iPhone and start reading on my device? Oh, the possibilities! :)

I’m sure the experience is just as nice on other current devices as well, including the BlackBerry Bold and Storm… But I just had to say here what a great mobile experience it was on the iPhone. The news was incredibly easy to find and it was served up to me lightning fast… Two thumbs up to CNN. Well done.

Note: I know I can speak for the whole team here at IntoMobile when I say our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in India, in particular the city of Mumbai.

Er, there is an option to view the full-size CNN site rather than just the mobile-optimised site. However, giving the massive amount of script on the full version, plus the need to zoom in to tap on links accurately and view some content, most of us find it easier to view the mobile version. The BBC websites are the same – and the full-size versions can easily crash an iPhone.

I actually can’t find any link to switch to the full version. I do like the mobile version, but sometimes I would like to pull up the full version as well. Even when I type in cnn.com, it redirects to m.cnn.com . Opera mini 4.2 and mobile 9.5 seem to do this. skyfire goes to the regular site by default.

At the bottom of the page, “Regular site”

I agree. CNN Mobile is the way of should be It rocks. It’s one of my most visited sites an has it’s own home screen icon link on my iPhone.

There is no option for the regular site now!! Please add this option to your business page. I have been using cnnfn original site since the iPhone was released with no problems. I like the photos.

I also do not have any option at the bottom of the cnnmobile page to see the regular site.

The information on the mobile site is TOO limited. How can we see the regular site?????

  • Kojo

Hey how about a link for it from your website

  • Khalil HAMDANI

How come there is no iPhone App for CNN? There are apps for BBC, NYTimes, LeMonde etc.

Cnn’s mobile sucks. Worst mobile site ever. At least leave the full version link (it was removed) and learn from others like Cbssports and the Brazilian m.g1.com.br
