Apple is planning to release the iPhone Air 2 in spring 2027, and it sounds like the company has been listening to customer feedback. According to 9to5Mac, Bloomberg is reporting that the next Air model will keep the same slim design as the current version, but with meaningful improvements in two areas that users have complained about most.
The original iPhone Air launched as Apple’s thinnest iPhone ever, but that slim profile came with trade-offs. It shipped with a single rear camera and battery life that left some users wanting more. Both of those issues appear to be on Apple’s fix list for the second generation.
The biggest change is on the camera front. Current iPhone Air 2 prototypes inside Apple reportedly have two cameras on the back. The existing model has just one 48MP rear camera, so the addition of an ultra-wide lens alongside the main 1x camera would be a notable step up. If you were hoping for a telephoto zoom lens, though, it does not look like that is happening yet.
Battery life is the other focus area. Apple is working to improve how long the Air 2 lasts on a charge, though the specifics are still unclear. The challenge is the phone’s thin body, which limits how much physical space there is for a larger battery. Apple may rely on efficiency gains instead, possibly through improved chip architecture or software-level power management.
This is not the first time we have heard about these plans. The Information previously reported that Apple was targeting spring 2027 for the iPhone Air 2 with a second camera. Bloomberg’s report now adds the battery life detail and confirms the direction Apple is heading.
Context matters here. The single camera on the current iPhone Air has been the most common complaint from customers, according to Bloomberg’s sources. Apple built the Air as a premium thin device, but buyers who spend that kind of money generally expect a more complete camera system. Adding an ultra-wide lens brings the Air closer to what the standard iPhone offers, which makes it a more credible option for people who do not want to pay Pro prices.
The spring 2027 launch also fits into a broader shift in how Apple is scheduling iPhone releases. Starting this year, Apple is splitting its lineup across two release windows:
- Fall 2026: iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Fold
- Spring 2027: iPhone Air 2, iPhone 18, iPhone 18e
That staggered approach gives Apple more room to spread out launches and maintain momentum through the year. It also means the iPhone Air 2 will arrive alongside the base iPhone 18, which sets up an interesting comparison point for buyers choosing between thin and light versus standard.
For now, the Air 2 is still in the prototype stage, and details could change before the final product ships. But the direction is clear. Apple wants to address the two most obvious weaknesses of the first Air without giving up the design that made it stand out in the first place.
