Vlingo Launches Voice-Powered App for the iPhone

Vlingo has announced the availability of vlingo for iPhone. You can of course grab it for free in the App Store. The app allows you to speak into your iPhone to perform a whole range of tasks and searches. Use it to find and dial-up contacts, search the web, access Google maps… and even to send status updates for Facebook and Twitter, all using your voice.

Dave Grannan, CEO of vlingo commented on the vlingo for iPhone launch:

“The iPhone offers an innovative multi-touch user interface that is fundamentally transforming the wireless industry…We’re proud to debut our breakthrough voice recognition technology on iPhone, taking simplicity one step further by reducing much of the reliance on typing, making mobile data and applications easier to find and use.”

I just tried out the app a little bit myself, and I’ve got to say… it works really well! It actually worked better the first time around in comparison to the new Google app for the iPhone. At least for search. Seemed that the voice recognition actually functioned faster, and search results popped up faster as well. Could have been a number of factors contributing to that result, but that’s what I found 🙂

For more info from vlingo, read the official press release.

Thanks Simon!
