Nokia N82 gets updated to firmware v31.0.016

The iPhone and iPhone 3G aren’t the only smartphones to get hit with the update-stick today. The venerable Nokia N82 has apparently been given a nice little firmware update with the newly released v31.0.016 firmware. Nokia wasn’t too revealing with the changes they’ve made in this latest firmware build, but we do know that User Data Preservation (UDP) is now part of the package. UDP allows users to update their S60 smartphone while preserving user data, but user beware, it’s always a good idea to backup critical data before flashing to a new firmware.

You can grab the v31.0.016 firmware for your Nokia N82 through the Nokia Sofware Updater (NSU) application. Excuse us while we test the UDP feature’s reliability. Feel free to chime in on your UDP experience!

    Hi,

I’m trying to update the firmware on my N82, but the updater is unable to detect my phone. PC Suite is able to do so easily. I had downloaded the NSU application standalone. Should I try to download the latest PC Suite & try?

    Hello,

I’ve made an update for my N82 and had no problems at all with it. Made a back-up first, just in case. I wasn’t aware that UDP comes with the latest version of the firmware. But now you’ve mentioned it….. All my private data (like contacts, tasks etc) are still available.
The rotation of the screen is now less sensitive. That makes it easier to use your phone in a flat position without rotating the screen at times you don’t want. But besides these two changes I can’t find any other changes with the latest update.
