sims3-logoFans of the ever-popular ‘The Sims’ series of games will be pleased to know that ‘The Sims 3′ is set to come to the iPhone this summer. The new installment of the game is set to hit multiple platforms at the same time, including the Mac, PC and the iPhone. Very cool. The release date is set for June 2, 2009. A much longer wait for those of us that were expecting a February launch.

If you’re unfamiliar with The Sims series, the whole point of the game is to create a virtual person or ‘sim’. You then go out and live their life, help them make friends, start a career, buy a home, etc… I played the original Sims game when it was first released, and it was fun… But I didn’t get hooked. New in version 3 will be the ability to choose up to five traits to create individual personalities. New design tools are now integrated to help you customize the appearance of your sim… And, a new ‘seamless’ neighborhood environment lets your Sims wander around area homes, businesses, head out to downtown, etc. I’m sure it will be a powerful and amazingly interactive environment to explore.

Should be interesting to see how gameplay looks and feels on the iPhone. Hopefully most of the features available in the main Mac/PC version of the game can be incorporated into the iPhone version. If SimCity is any indication (great game for the iPhone), The Sims 3 should be a best seller in the App Store.
