three-screensTMCnet have got an interesting story up, based on some research that was done by the Nielsen company. The thrust of the research is that Americans are watching more TV than ever – and doing across “three screens” – namely TV, Computer (InterWeb), and Mobile.

Now of course, we could assume that the percentage of mobile viewing is lower compared to the more traditional TV, and the ever-pervasive InterWeb – but the point is made that the screen chosen depends on a number of factors – like convenience, quality, and access.

For those that are constantly on the move, or that don’t have access to TV easily, suddenly mediums like WiFi and 3G become viable channels – at least that’s what most in the industry subscribe to. Personally I’d like to see a really large-scale study done on this – 99% of the data I’ve seen from research uses sample groups that are just too small to be meaningful.

At any rate, one thing’s for sure – our friends over in the US are watching a ton of TV!

Ben is a 10+ year veteran of the Mobile industry – starting his career when SMS was a still a relatively new concept for most people (!), he has now consulted on everything from bleeding-edge Mobile content, to the next-gen accessories you might view it on. As a result he has a broad and deep knowledge in numerous areas of Mobile – from network operators to device vendors, to infrastructure and middleware vendors (not to mention content delivery) – and has worked for companies in all of these areas! He is based in the UK, a hotbed of activity for mobile, and recently became a father for the second time – as oppose to in his younger years when he was happy spend time tweaking all manner of mobile devices to 'nth' degree, he now looks for services and hardware that provide the most efficient, compact, and reliable improvements to his already manic life! It’s his opinion that Mobile solutions should be there to help to make your life better – if a particular solution (be it service or device) isn’t doing this, he believes you need to ask the very important question of why you continue to use it... His focus at IntoMobile is mainly on Mobile content, services, and infrastructure, particularly as regards the UK market – and with the occasional look at devices. Additionally, using his extensive experience in the industry, he will provide commentary on the industry at large, with regular (and hopefully thought-provoking) articles.

Things that make you go HMMM , well I can honestly say that I’m not one those many Americans wasting my time watching tv although with the unemployment numbers rising I’m going to take a SWAG and say that there will more watching regardless of the medium, I can say that if I didn’t drive a lot and instead sat on a bus/train/airplane I would be of the ones using my phone to view tv. I have two phones on of them is a Voyager with mobile tv on it and during the college football season I was able to watch a game that otherwise i would have’d missed due to mall Christmas shopping . btw the other phone is a Storm 9530
