Out of curiosity I thought I’d do a quick search to see if there was a dedicated app for the Preakness Stakes. The Kentucky Derby has their own app, so I figured, heck, might be one for the Preakness as well. While I was/am disappointed that I didn’t find one, I did stumble across a fun game while punching in ‘horse’ into the App Store.

HorseShoes Pro takes you out to the cottage for some horseshoe tossing action. Multiple gameplay modes are available in the full version (a ‘Lite’ version is also available for free) including tournament mode, an arcade toss, ringer mode, and play-n-pass. There’s also a local and global high score leaderboard for you to challenge yourself with.

To play, you simply touch the screen to grab the horseshoe, and swipe your finger up the screen to toss. The faster you swipe, the further it will travel… and be sure to swipe in a straight line towards the peg, because it is very easy to go off line. Also, you can try and ‘curve’ the shoe by tilting your device left and right. If you’re a little off the mark, you can try and bring your toss back into play that way.

You can pick up HorseShoes Pro for $1.99 (iTunes link) in the App Store, or click here to try out the ‘Lite’ version for free (iTunes link). The folks at Skyworks Interactive have done yet another great job on this fun and challenging title. Worth a look.
