AT&T’s BlackJack 2 now has a new Jack to succeed it. The most visible difference is the Motorola Q/BlackBerry Bold style keyboard, but everything else is fairly ho-hum. The Jack rocks all the standard fixings: Windows Mobile 6.1, a 3 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi (b/g), aGPS and 3G. Enterprise buffs can, of course, get their push e-mail through Exchange support, and for those more concerned with multimedia, Windows Media Player 10 and a microSD memory card slot supporting up to 16 GB should keep you covered. This Jack is a nice repackaging of the old line, and sets the stage for Samsung’s push into Windows Mobile 6.5. You can pick up the new Jack as of May 19th. for a mere $99.99 on contract after rebates.

In exploring RIM’s platform, he has learned what enterprises are looking for in mobility as well as what makes the innocuous BlackBerry so appealing to them. Recently Simon’s been covering RIM’s gradual move into an already-crowded consumer market, and the impact of burgeoning challengers, such as the iPhone, as well as long-time leaders, like Nokia, on BlackBerry’s advancement. With plenty of content under his belt, Simon will be branching off a bit to see what other smartphone manufacturers are working on while still using BlackBerry as a barometer.
