You may recall Simon reporting on Gwabbit from the Solutions Showcase floor at WES 2009 earlier in the month. The app is a simple one that scans incoming email for contact information, sends the info to their servers (where it figures out what info should go where), and then compares the info to your address book. Gwabbit offers to update or create a new contact based on the information found. Very handy if you’re not on top of managing your contacts.

Official description of Gwabbit for BlackBerry:

gwabbit automatically scans incoming BlackBerry emails, finds contacts, and instantly transforms them into contact records within your address book with a mouse click! gwabbit puts your contact fields away in their proper place in the address book and even checks your address book to see if you’ve already saved a contact previously before re-prompting you to “gwab” it again

gwabbit employs a remarkable patent-pending semantic technology to identify contact blocks within email text and accurately parse and import them into your address book. No more cutting and pasting contacts one field at a time from your emails into your address book.

Long story short, Gwabbit is now available for BlackBerry App World and www.gwabbit.com. How much? It’ll cost you $9.99 annually via App World. Gwabbit is compatible with the BlackBerry Bold, Storm, Curve and Pearl series devices (on OS 4.2 or higher).

Note: Be sure to check out this one even if you’re just mildly interested. A 14 day free trial is available.
