Sweden’s TeliaSonera has signed an agreement with Ericsson to deploy a podcast-based advertising platform called “Personal Pod Advertising,” which will be launched during this year.
The service, which is part of Ericsson’s Mobile TV solution, allows ads to be sent out as podcasts during the night when traffic is low. In that sense, the solution will be beneficial to both operators which will see additional revenues from the service, and retails which will be able to track consumer behavior and interact with specific target groups.
Consumers make choices on advertising companies’ websites and effectively create their user profiles that mirror their areas of interest. Then, if they opt-in, they receive updates on their favorite brands via text, video or radio ads sent to their mobile phones. Moreover, users can also share the information with friends and family, paid for by the advertiser.
We’ll have to see how this works in real life…
