The waterproof Casio Exilim that we saw Verizon promoting in rather scandalous ways is now available for $279.99 on a two-year contract after rebates. It might seem a little steep, but for a waterproof, ruggedized device with a 5.1 megapixel camera with 3 x optical zoom and a really cool swiveling form factor, this could be the cameraphone of choice for avid photographers. An 8 megapixel version of the Exilim is out there, but might take awhile to find its way to our end of the pond. Alongside the Exilim is the Motorola A455 Rival, a side-sliding texter we saw briefly yesterday, available for $99.99 on contract with rebates. GPS, a 2 megapixel camera, 3.5 mm headphone jack and stereo Bluetooth are all confirmed, along with the usual services like VZ Navigator and Rhapsody music.

In exploring RIM’s platform, he has learned what enterprises are looking for in mobility as well as what makes the innocuous BlackBerry so appealing to them. Recently Simon’s been covering RIM’s gradual move into an already-crowded consumer market, and the impact of burgeoning challengers, such as the iPhone, as well as long-time leaders, like Nokia, on BlackBerry’s advancement.
With plenty of content under his belt, Simon will be branching off a bit to see what other smartphone manufacturers are working on while still using BlackBerry as a barometer. At IntoMobile, you can count on his posts being even-handed, well-informed and thought-out.
