New Palm Pre TV ad doubles as sleeping aid

Advertisements should invoke some sort of emotion. Whether it’s an upbeat, musical TV commercial or a scantily clad model on a billboard in Hollywood, a good ad should move you. Palm’s latest Palm Pre TV ad does just the opposite. It might even put you to sleep.

The new Palm Pre ad features a soft-talking woman demonstrating the Palm Pre’s WebOS. The yoga-ish music paired with the lady’s soothing voice seems more appropriate for a day-spa commercial than a snazzy new smartphone. Palm was probably going for the “Palm Pre’s intuitive UI makes your life easier” approach, which is a great idea. Unfortunately, the execution on the ad fell a little short.

I fell asleep before I had time to get excited about seeing the lady, dressed as if she had just come from a yoga workout, flicking through WebOS “cards” on the Palm Pre. If you’re having trouble falling asleep, check out the snooze-tastic video.
