htc logo HTC BREW ing up non smartphone for later this yearWe had already heard that HTC is looking to enter the feature-phone market with a lower-end touchscreen handset running some sort of proprietary mobile OS. Turns out, HTC os gearing up to launch a “high-profile 3G handset” that’s based on Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM)’s Brew Mobile Platform (BMP) – at least according to ‘industry sources.”  The upcoming Brew-based cellphone will reportedly draw on the TouchFLO 3D and Sense UIs that have done wonders for the look and feel of HTC’s Windows Mobile and Android smartphones, respectively. We’re also hearing that HTC’s non-smartphone handset is aimed at a September or October launch window.

HTC has put some serious effort into designing slick and intuitive UI skins for the Windows Mobile and Android platforms. The Taiwanese mobile phone maker has learned a lot about creating eye-catching interfaces over the past couple years, so it stands to reason that HTC would look to skin the non-smartphone BREW platform with a custom HTC-made UI.

MEGA, anyone?
