the-groveLos Angelinos are about to get a serious taste of the Palm Pre. Palm is reportedly planning to open Palm Pre Experience Centers in two LA malls in August – at The Grove and The Americana shopping centers in LA proper and Glendale, respectively. Rather than open another pair of retail stores, Palm will apparently be setting up the Palm Pre Experience Center as an open-air booth. Passersby will be invited by Palm ambassadors to get hands-on with the Palm Pre. Demo’s and tutorials will be part of the “experience.”

The new Pre Experience Centers are a departure from traditional brick-and-mortar retail stores. Palm actually closed the doors to their failed Palm Store at The Grove mall recently, so it makes sense that Palm would opt for an outdoor booth rather than another retail store.

By bringing the Palm Pre out of Sprint stores and right in shoppers’ faces, Palm is looking to increase awareness about the Pre. A good move, we think. Especially since Palm’s TV ads for the Palm Pre have so far failed to impress.
