iTunes Gets OK from USB Forum to Block Pre Media Sync

Palm has been persistently updating its media sync capabilities to match Apple (NSDQ: AAPL)’s continued blockage in iTunes updates, but the iPhone-maker can claim a larger victory today. The USB Implementers Forum, who essentially regulate the use of USB of all kinds, have ruled that if the Palm (NSDQ: PALM) Pre is caught pretending to be an iPhone again in order to weasel its way into iTunes, they would be breaching the organization’s rules. The reprecussions of such action aren’t really discussed, but it’s easy to imagine Apple leveraging the USB Implementers Forum’s position to turn some legal screws. Odds are webOS 1.2 will be arriving tomorrow, potentially with another iTunes fix – I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what kind of sparks will fly.

I don’t understand? What is so darn important about connecting to iTunes? I for one, go out of my way to avoid iTunes all together. Please Wake-up sheepeople.
