A source with direct knowledge of Nokia’s product roadmap told Reuters” that there will be only one new smartphone released in 2010 that runs on Maemo. Makes sense.

Nokia 770 Internet Tablet = Announced May 25, 2005, Released November 03, 2005

13 months later …

Nokia N800 Internet Tablet = Announced and made available in January 2007

Nokia N810 Internet Tablet = N800 + keyboard + GPS = Announced and made available in October 2007

26 months later …

Nokia N900 announced August 2009, made available in volume (hopefully) in December 2009

Why would Nokia break this habit of releasing a device every generation? From a marketing perspective it’s brilliant since this mysterious device will probably come after the summer 2010 iPhone. From an engineering perspective concentrating on one model, versus testing for compatibility, allows you to progress faster. I wouldn’t even call this piece of “news” a rumors since anyone with common sense, a marker, and a calender could have deduced when the next Maemo device ships.

I dont blame them…they need to test the waters with the n900 and see how it sells. also with the low cost of this phone unlocked it will be a success. im sure they are planning on riding it out for a while. Too bad it will only work on T-mo’s 3g and not at&t’s or i would have bought it.
