
We’ve already talked about Raytheon’s plans to embrace the Android platform and now they’re saying the iPhone is on the list, as well. In other words, the defense contractor announced the first of a series of mission software applications for Apple’s mobile platform.
We don’t have the AppStore links, of course, but we do have the official press release which says that the company has developed intuitive situational awareness application based on military messaging standards that provide multimedia access, audio and textual point of interest, free text messaging, collaborative planning, spot reports and emergency call for fire. Moreover, Raytheon talks about other innovations such as disruptive-tolerant networking, content-centric networking and augmented reality, incorporating security guards for tactical operations…
And if this isn’t a proof that iPhone is much more than a toy phone, I don’t know what it is.
