houseofpalmPalm announced at CES 2010 that they would open up their webOS App Catalog and all its app-related data/metrics to third parties in a move to spark a crowd-sourced webOS application marketing effort. Palm doesn’t have a strong distribution platform in its App Catalog to compete with the likes of Apple’s highly visible and tightly integrated iTunes AppStore and or Google’s fast-growing Android Market, so they’re looking to the webOS community to drive adoption. The webOS community has answered that call. A new web-based app store, called HouseOfPalm, was recently launched to bring the App Catalog to the web.

HouseOfPalm features more comprehensive information than the App Catalog itself. The online webOS store displays apps be category, download/publishing inforation, app ratings, screenshots. The website, despite its uninspired design, gives webOS users a new way to discover and browse webOS apps on a larger computer screen. You’ll find about 1,000 webOS apps in the HouseOfPalm portfolio.
